Introduction

DTP 2026.1 and earlier included an embedded MongoDB instance for Extension Designer. Starting with DTP 2026.2, MongoDB is no longer included with DTP. To continue using Extension Designer with DTP 2026.2 or later, you must deploy and configure your own MongoDB server instance. Parasoft provides a DTP MongoDB Migration Utility to help you migrate your existing Extension Designer data into that instance.

DTP MongoDB Migration Utility

The DTP MongoDB Migration Utility migrates MongoDB data from an existing Parasoft DTP installation (DTP 2026.1 or earlier) to a standalone MongoDB server instance. You can migrate before or after upgrading to DTP 2026.2. Both scenarios are described below.

You can download the utility from the Parasoft Marketplace.

Migrating After Upgrading to DTP 2026.2

Before running the utility, ensure that:

  • Your upgrade to DTP 2026.2 or later is complete.
  • Extension Designer from the previous DTP installation (DTP 2026.1 or earlier) is no longer running (to ensure that the embedded MongoDB data is not in use).
  • You know the path to the <DATA_DIR> of the DTP installation. See Installation Overview for more information about this directory.
  • You have downloaded the migration utility to the same machine as the DTP installation.
  • Your standalone MongoDB server instance is running. This instance will be referred to as the destination MongoDB below.

Running the Utility

The utility migrates MongoDB data from a previous DTP installation’s <DATA_DIR> to the destination MongoDB. When you run it:

  • Specify the destination MongoDB connection URL using the --destination-uri parameter.
  • If authentication is enabled on the destination MongoDB, also specify the username using --destination-username. The utility will prompt you for the password.

Linux

The MongoDB data directory is located at <DATA_DIR>/dtpservices/shared/databases.

Run the following command, replacing the placeholders with your environment-specific values:

./run_embedded_migration.sh --data-dir "<path-to-mongodb-data-directory>" --destination-uri mongodb://<destination-host>:<destination-port> --destination-username <username>

Windows

The MongoDB data directory is located at <DATA_DIR>\dtpservices\shared\databases.

Run the following command, replacing the placeholders with your environment-specific values:

run_embedded_migration.bat /data-dir:"<path-to-mongodb-data-directory>" /destination-uri:"mongodb://<destination-host>:<destination-port>" /destination-username:<username>

Migrating Before Upgrading to DTP 2026.2

Before running the utility, ensure that:

  • DTP 2026.1 or earlier is still installed and Extension Designer is running. The embedded MongoDB runs when Extension Designer is running.
  • Your standalone MongoDB server instance is running.

The embedded MongoDB will be referred to as the source MongoDB below and your standalone MongoDB server will be referred to as the destination MongoDB.

Running the Utility

The utility migrates MongoDB data directly from an embedded MongoDB instance to the destination MongoDB. When you run it:

  • Be aware that the embedded MongoDB's default port is 8316.
  • Specify its connection URL using the --source-uri parameter.
  • Specify the destination MongoDB connection URL using the --destination-uri parameter.
  • If authentication is enabled on the destination MongoDB, also specify the username using --destination-username. The utility will prompt you for the password.

Linux

Run the following command, replacing the placeholders with your environment-specific values:

./run_embedded_migration.sh --source-uri mongodb://<source-host>:<source-port> --destination-uri mongodb://<destination-host>:<destination-port> --destination-username <username>

Windows

Run the following command, replacing the placeholders with your environment-specific values:

run_embedded_migration.bat /source-uri:"mongodb://<source-host>:<source-port>" /destination-uri:"mongodb://<destination-host>:<destination-port>" /destination-username:<username>
