DTP supports multiple layers of configuration for JVM-related settings. Administrators can control memory options and additional options by overriding default options in a configuration file or via environment variables.
Configuration Layers
There are three configuration layers, listed here in ascending order of precedence.
Default Configuration File
Location: <INSTALL_DIR>/bin/variables
This file is shipped with the product and contains the baseline JVM settings. It defines:
- JAVA_MEM (memory allocation for DTP server)
- JAVA_DC_MEM (memory allocation for Data Collector)
These values are applied unless overridden in a user configuration file or environment variables.
User Configuration File (Persistent Storage)
Location: <DATA_DIR>/conf/custom_variables
You can override the default values by defining any of the following variables in this file:
- JAVA_MEM
- JAVA_DC_MEM
- JAVA_CONFIG_ARGS (to enable options in DTP server)
- JAVA_DC_CONFIG_ARGS (to enable options in Data Collector)
These values will be applied unless overridden by environment variables.
Environment Variables
You can also define the following as environment variables:
- JAVA_MEM
- JAVA_DC_MEM
- JAVA_CONFIG_ARGS
- JAVA_DC_CONFIG_ARGS
Environment variables take precedence over both the user configuration file and the default configuration file; if an environment variable is defined, its value will be used regardless of what is set in either configuration file.
